Bull City Coworking

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Bull City Coworking is currently having a membership drive before opening their space at 600 E. Main St. I stopped by on Monday and the space is really nice. It’s definitely a good spot to check out for startups or others looking for some space. They have a cafe space, with booths and an open space that they plan on dropping in some cubicles or desks. The next open house is Friday, Nov. 4th at 11am. Check out their IndieGoGo campaign http://www.indiegogo.com/Bull-City-Coworking

Bull City Forward Needs Some Feedback

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

From Bull City Forward:

For the past several months, Bull City Forward (BCF) has been working with a student small business consulting team from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business to strengthen BCF’s core business model.  As part of that work, the team has prepared a survey that will aid in understanding local entrepreneurs’ needs and experiences better.

This survey is open to all local entrepreneurs, and it should take about 10 minutes to complete. The questions focus on the current needs and experiences of your organization. In thanks for your participation, all survey responders will be entered in a raffle to win one the following prizes-

  • $75, $50, $25 Visa Gift Cards (1 of each available)
  • One BCF outgoing newsletter dedicated to any social-impact related information on your organization/company which will reach 1400 followers (1 available)
  • A 1 hour consulting session with entrepreneur and BCF Executive Director Christopher Gergen (1 available)

The survey can be accessed here:https://qtrial.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_5bcJmUjdDVYo96s

All responses will be kept entirely confidential and will only be seen by the student team members.  BCF will receive a summary of results with no identifying information included.  The survey will be open through Friday, March 25th.  Any questions can be directed to Melissa Mehm at mar48@duke.edu.

Several Durham Startups on “Hottest Companies In The Southeast” List

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

A list from Lead411 of the hottest companies in the Southeast was released today and recognized several companies based in Durham.

The Lead411 research team started with over 2400 companies and narrowed it down to the top 91 fastest growing, based on companies that have achieved 100% increase in revenue, $1 million funding, or a large increase in site traffic in the past year.

The Durham area startups I saw on the list are:

Bronto, Blue Stripe, Channel Advisor, ReverbNation, Bandwidth.com, TheraSim, and iContact.

Downtown Durham Startups

With a new design and some new links, Bull City Startups has now officially teamed up with Downtown Durham Startups.

Initially, BCS will provide news and information about Durham startups while Downtown Durham Startups provides the Startup Directory and Resources section.  Our combined mission is to showcase the growing startup scene in Downtown Durham and the greater Triangle, and to provide helpful resources to aspiring entrepreneurs.

If you work for or know of a startup that is not yet listed in the startup directory, send in the info so we can get it listed.

Updates

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

You'll have to ignore the foot. My wife thought she was Danny DeVito for a moment.

I have been away on vacation and have missed a few things.  I traveled down to Pensacola, FL, where I grew up, for a family reunion.  On my first day there, we went as far east on Pensacola Beach as we could and had a day at the beach just as I remember from my childhood.  The next day, at the family reunion, we were close to a beach further west.  What we found there were booms, teams of people picking up tarballs and closed beach accesses.  I think I have seen Pensacola Beach as I know it for the last time for quite a while.

On to some updates:

-Motricity IPO’d on Friday

-Event: Refresh 028 is tonight!  RSVP in the link.  David Eisinger tried a new technology every day for 30 days and will discuss.

-iContact launched a new, very clean design.  Ryan Allis has a great history of how iContact’s design has changed over the years.  He also posted some information for VC backed firms to consider.
